Hilo High’s boys varsity basketball team defeated Pahoa High 60-48 on Wednesday night at the Vikings’ home court.

Hilo remained undefeated in BIIF play while Pahoa suffered its first loss.

The score remained close through the first half of the game, as the Vikings picked up a miniscule lead by outscoring the Daggers 16-13 in the first quarter before trailing 11-10 in the second frame.

Halftime adjustments led Hilo to a massive, 25-11 third quarter — which gave the Vikings enough points in the bank to coast to victory, despite getting outscored 13-10 by Pahoa during the final quarter.

Hilo senior powerhouse Peyton Pana scored a game high 26 points, also going two-for-three for free throws. Ikena Leao also dropped 12 points for the Vikings.

Pahoa was led by three-point sniper Donivan Lynch, who put up fifteen points, all from threes. Kyran Canete scored nine points for the Daggers, trailed by Kaumualii Gancinia with eight points.

The Vikings are now 3-0 in BIIF play and 5-1 overall.

Following a Thursday night match against Kea‘au High (results will be published Sunday), Hilo’s next outing will be 6 p.m. Monday at the UH-Hilo gymnasium against St. Joseph School (0-2).

The Daggers (3-1) will next face Kohala High (1-0 BIIF, 6-2 ovr.) on Tuesday at the Pahoa High gymnasium.
